History  JAVAPROMO as a cooperation Board of its 13 members, was declared on 26 June 2002 at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Sleman. In 2006, Karanganyar district joined in making JAVAPROMO a 14 member cooperation Board. A rundown of the members are as follows: Bantul, Boyolali, Gunungkidul, Kebumen, Klaten, Kulon Progo, Magelang, city of Magelang, Sleman, Purworejo, Temanggung, Wonosobo, city of Yogyakarta, and Karanganyar. It is estimated that tourism industry will be the main source of employment for the next two decades. Therefore government has the the responsibility to provide skilled labour for this industry. To compete with other countries in attracting tourists, infrastructure and facilities are a top priority. This has led partnership between districts in Central Java. In short 3 things that led the creation of JAVAPROMO: tourism development should not be limited by administrative boundries, a common understanding on tourism development between Government officials and the bussines community, and a common goal to make Tourism the main industry for the 21st century. With the declaration of JAVAPROMO, it is hoped there will a common vision and mission in developing tourism in this area. This in turn will lead partnership between district and cities to achieve what is called “Java Tourism”. In the end, the aim to to maintain, develop, promote and market tourism in all area. |
